a ways to go. there is so much to do but we have accomplished quite a bit. i know former mayor brown, who is not here yet, but he will be dashing in, let him know i said this. if he were the president of the united states we would be the 186th country it ratify cdal i say that because i know he and his history was the very first to sign up our city, it pass the ordinance when he was the mayor, to make sure we were on the road by abiding by those principles and then when i had a chance as director of public works i took up the helm for that department. you know, those years, they were really blue collar attitudes in public works, but we found the women leaders that we could acknowledge and promote and it became an even better agency for that very reason. so i want to again acknowledge that history. we still have a lot to do since our country has yet to ratify these principles. i hope that we will get closer and closer to do that or if not do it now, it is something that i think we've really been embarrassed about as a country not to do this on a national level. but i join you today

, 2012. good morning. good to be with you. i'm terrell brown. we begin in washington. there is a new sense of urgency to avert a looming fiscal crisis. it's the so-called fiscal cliff a combination of tax hikes and spending cuts scheduled to kick in next year. both democrats and republicans are talking compromise but we have heard this all before. and in the just released report from the nonpartisan congressional budget office predicts dire consequences unless it's resolved. this mornings stocks in asia dipped on concern over the crisis. tokyo's nikkei and hong kong hang seng were down 1% and wall street investors are selling. the dow jones industrials were down 434 points the last two days. today president obama in his first post-election comment will address the nation's fiscal problems. susan mcginnis is in washington with more on all of this. susan, good morning to you. >> reporter: good morning. you know, not everyone believes that the consequences of going over this fiscal cliff are going to be so severe. people are talking about a global financial crisis, another u.s. credit d

changes not just in terms of having a brown person on stage but really a cultural shift within the party and that includes being able to bargain and putting a plan on the table. >> it couldn't have gotten worse in january there will be more democratic members of the house of representatives. i don't see any reason for the president and the democrats not to wait until january on doing anything on this. i'm with you 1,000 percent on the off the cliff strategy. we have to get chris an off the cliff button >> here are two things that i would say. it is very interesting. fiscal cliff was a term coined by ben bernanke. and he was doing it to try to kick congress's butt to do something stimulative. but what has happened is if people think about it as a cliff, they don't understand that you can go off it. it is not just a slope. it is a little driveway, i think the rhetoric that has come out around it is bad for the negotiating position for the president because it makes seeming go off the cliff worse than what it is. >> down the slope a little bit. what will happen is if they do it on january 1

wilson was arrested. wilson's family hired world famous seattle defense attorney john henry brown. brown once represented serial killer ted bundy and is now defending robert bales, the american soldier accused of mass murder in afghanistan. in the mid '90s, he came to wenatchee when scores of adults were charged with child sexual abuse. he succeeded in having some of those cases dropped or overturned. >> it was completely false, made up known as the wenatchee witch hunt. >> reporter: gary reisen was the prosecutor then going up against brown in the child sex abuse scanneding and he's the prosecutor now against kris wilson. >> mr. brown likes case that is are high visibility. >> reporter: the two attorneys were ready to present their cases to the judge and jury. gary reisen had strong dna evidence. john henry brown had a strong card to play a witness who claims she saw mackenzie strangled on videotape by somebody else. >> to watch somebody be tortured like they did to her and kill her and laugh about it never goes away. >> reporter: the outcome was a cour

election in a few months in massachusetts. scott brown just defeated, he could turn around and run for that seat. it's not a slam dunk. i think that -- >> which would give the republicans -- >> yeah. so going to be considerations if he picks somebody from the senate to fill these slots. >> leon panetta, likely to depart. who might remace him? >> i think it's a tough job to find a good replacement. there's all kinds of people who have been in top positions, mullen, who has been the joint chiefs of staff. there are people who get mentioned. but the thing i think with the panetta decision and the timing is sort of critical there. if we're facing the potential for a military showdown with iran, we're facing a lot of other iran situations, a lot of other tense situations around the world, it's quite possible that panetta gets drafted to stay a little bit longer until some of these situations are worked out. tim geithner is another example, treasury secretary. while we have a fiscal cliff situation, this debt limit crisis a few months after that, i think with geithner, it's also an issue

two items presentation for the design of the new willie brown jr. middle school including the site plan, the exterior design the materials and finishes. we were fully briefed on how much community involvement was present in the design of the buildings. we were shown very cool computer graphics that led us on a virtual tour of what willie brown will look like. it is very exciting to see this, you know, brand new middle school come to life, at least in the presentation. the architects
